Cromwell's Classroom: The Early History of Huntingdon Grammar School

Admission: Free

Location: Cromwell Museum

The Cromwell Museum’s summer exhibit explores the early history of Huntingdon Grammar School – founded in 1565 in the building which now holds the museum, and which survives today as Hinchingbrooke School. The exhibit looks at how the school came to be founded, what lessons were like in the 17th century and tells the story of some of the early students, including Cromwell and Pepys. Exhibits include the original charter which founded the school and an early set of school rules! Find out if you would have been a good student – or failed at your lessons and suffered a brutal punishment in a 1600s school!

There’s lots to learn (pun intended) with this intriguing new exhibition!
