In August 1645 Royalist forces commanded by King Charles I took Huntingdon after a short skirmish on the north side of the town and occupied it for 2 days, plundering the town.

As part of the Huntingdonshire History Festival join the Sealed Knot for a weekend event at Castle Hills recreating these events, immersing yourself in life 380 years ago. Explore the living history encampments, meet various of our costumed characters, take part in ‘have a go’ sessions (from soldier’s drill to 17th century school lessons).

The site is open 10am – 4pm both Saturday and Sunday, admission is free of charge. Please be aware that Castle Hills Park is an archaeological site; as such the ground is uneven and appropriate footwear is advised.

Timetable for the weekend:

Saturday: 

10.30am – Living History Open

11.30am – Drill Display

12noon – The King’s Arrival in Huntingdon, 1645 – meet Charles I as he arrives!

2pm – Drill Display

3pm – The Battle of Huntingdon

4pm – Event closes

Sunday: 

10.30am – Living History Open

11.30am – Drill Display

12noon – Mutiny! The Soldiers are not happy…

1pm – The Royalist Spy… is there a secret agent in Huntingdon?

Please note: there is no car parking or public vehicle access at Castle Hills Park; those attending are advised to park in one of the Town Centre Car Parks – the closest parking (and flattest for wheelchair access) is the Bridge Place Car Park, just the other side of the river.
